The surrounding county of Jennings is one if Indiana's most natural and scenic counties. With two National Wildlife Refuges, two State Fish and Wildlife Areas, a State Forest and a State Nature Preserve, the wildlife and recreational opportunities abound.

Likewise the county and its small towns have a rich and unique history. Vernon is designated as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the responsibilities of of the department is managing and upgrading the four parks within the City limits. They include: The 3.5 acre "Mini Park", the new 8 acre "Green way Park", the 13.5 acre "Neighborhood Park", and also the new 66 acre "Community Park".

Jennings County Visitors Center is located at the entrance of Muscatatuck Park in the William Read Home. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Muscatatuck Park is a natural gem, with an interesting and significant history. Our visitor center will be glad to welcome you and supply the information that you may need.

Golf
The community has a challenging 9 hole golf course at the Muscatatuck Fords Crossing. A new beautiful 18 hole course recently opened at the North Vernon Municipal Airport. Both courses are open to the public.

Civic Theatre

The newly renovated and reopened Park Theatre Civic Centre in downtown North Vernon has become an historic venue for the arts, ecompassing nearly every genre of music and theatre.
