Jennings County Schools, a county wide consolidated system, has set its own priorities to offer an environment and the means to achieve the best and and most well-rounded education possible for its 4,500 students. The five elementary schools stress the basic skills with extensive parental involvement. The middle school concentrates on educating the total adolescent, while the high school begins exploration into career and post-secondary training.

Some of the special programs offered through the Jennings County Schools include gifted and talented programs for students grades 5 through 12; Vocational education programs to explore various career options; Fine arts for a variety of activities; school to work programs and school to work opportunities. The school corporation also offers Alternative Schools for suspended and expelled students.

Jennings County is also fortunate to have an excellent private school, St. Mary's Catholic School. This kindergarten through eighth grade school has 213 students.

The State of Indiana and Jennings County are blessed with excellent educational network. There are 294 public school districts with 1,923 schools serving an enrollment of over 1 million students. The average pupil-teacher ratio is 17.5-1.

There are 67 colleges and universities in Indiana which includes Purdue University (enrollment 35,000), Indiana University (enrollment 35,000), Ball State University (enrollment 20,000) and Indiana State University (enrollment 11,000). Indiana is served by one of the best collection of private institutions to be found anywhere. With well respected names as the University of Notre Dame, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, and DePauw University.

Indiana was the first state to form a Department of Workforce Development. That commitment to preparing the workforce for the challenges of the 21st Century is also supported through the 23 Ivy Tech (Indiana Vocational Technical College) campuses located throughout the state. Ivy tech offers a wide variety of training from healthcare to computer networking. The Community College of Indiana is a partnership between Ivy Tech State College and Vincennes University. It brings high quality educational opportunities to Hoosiers in their local communities at an affordable cost.
