Transportation
It's easy to get where you need to go from Jennings
County. The county is situated within eight hours of 60 percent
of the nation's population with easy access to highways, airports
and railroads.
Highways: Highways stretch from north to south: I-65
is three miles from the county line; three interstate within 60
miles; US 50, State Road 3 and State Road 7 crisscross the county.
Air: Corporate travel is easily accommodated
at the North
Vernon Municipal Airport.
Three major commercial airports are within 80 miles:
Indianapolis International Airport; Standiford Field in Louisville,
KY; and Greater Cincinnati International Airport.
Rail: CSX rail line from Cincinnati
to St. Louis runs right through Jennings County. North-south lines
can be easily accessed as close as Seymour, Indiana just 15 miles
away. The Madison Railroad provides short line service from North
Vernon Industrial park to the CSX crossing and Madison, Indiana
on the Ohio River.
Telecommunications:
Verizon and SEI Communications
provide telephone service to the majority of the county. We have
high-speed internet and broad band access provided by Comcast with
fiber optic cable. Citizens Communication
Corp. offers wireless
high speed internet and broadband communication. Jennings County
has access to dial up, DSL, T1,
Fiber
Optic Cable and Wireless communication.

Utilities
Water: Jennings County is fortunate
to be served by several water companies, both rural companies and
the North Vernon and Vernon municipal systems. Jennings Water, Inc.
serving the northern half of the county is the largest rural provider.
Other rural companies include Stucker Fork Water, East Bartholomew
Water, Burnt Pines Water, Country Squire Lakes Water and Dupont
Water.
Wastewater: There are three wastewater
treatment plants in Jennings County. The largest treatment facility
is the North Vernon Municipal Wastewater system. The Jennings Northwest
Utilities serves the Country Squires Lakes, Scipio and neighboring
areas in Northwest Jennings County. The Campbell Township Rural
Sewer District was formed to serve and expand the the system serving
Muscatatuck State Development Center in the eastern part of the
county and into Butlerville.
Natural Gas: Natural gas is provided
in North Vernon and surrounding areas by the Midwest Natural Gas
Corporation, as privately held company with a high pressure 6 inch
line. A Texas eastern distribution line crosses the county about
5 miles north of North Vernon.
Electricity: Jennings County is served
by two electric utilities; Cinergy/PSI
an investor owned energy company which is the largest utility
in the State. They provide service to the county with a 138Kv line.
The second utility is Hoosier
Energy REC, which sells wholesale to the electric cooperatives.
They serve the county with a161Kv line approximately five miles
north of North Vernon.
