Downtown Revitalization is a Priority

Since its designation as one of the first Stellar communities in 2011, North Vernon has undergone numerous revitalization projects, including building façade improvements, the creation of Stellar Plaza, Carnegie Library restoration, and a people’s trail linking downtown to Muscatatuck County Park.

North Vernon Main Street, Inc., a non-profit organization formed in 2021, is leading current and future efforts on revitalization, commercial development, and quality of life initiatives in the downtown core through private and public partnerships.

We invite you to explore our downtown businesses, join in local events and festivals, and enjoy the hometown feel that makes us Uniquely North Vernon.

New Housing Options are in the Works

In 2018, Jennings County commissioned a housing study with Zimmerman / Volk Associates to better understand the future housing needs of its community members.

The study concluded that an average of 595 households are expected to locate in Jennings County annually over the next 5 years. Traditional and non-traditional families are likely to account for nearly 44 percent of the annual potential market; another 39.5 percent are likely to be younger singles and couples; and 16.8 percent are likely to be empty nesters and retirees.

As a result, new housing options are under construction or are being planned.

Educating the Workforce of the Future

Today’s successful companies need a skilled workforce that’s ready to make the most of tomorrow’s technology. That’s why Jennings County’s local governments and schools work closely together with each other, as well as with our State and Federal government partners to provide state-of-the-art resources and opportunities to build the workforce of the future.
